Icom introduces the IC-GM1600 Marine VHF handheld, designed for GMDSS compliant survival craft communications. The radio is engineered to survive and function in the extreme environmental conditions common in marine emergencies and brings the latest Search and Rescue technology to the marketplace. GMDSS (Global Marine Distress and Safety System) is a multi-function communications system that can automate co-ordinate and facilitate the Search and Rescue process. The IC-GM1600 features waterproof construction, designed to IP-X7 specifications with a new, "Speed Water Removal" function that quickly sheds water from the speaker system, assuring you sharp, clear communications even in the worst conditions. All knobs are sized for quick operation and the large, well-labelled buttons feature a positive action "feel" with a programmable beep tone for sure operation. The IC-GM1600's high-intensity LCD read out offers high-contrast, wide-angle readability with 4 levels of contrast and 3 levels of backlighting.

Survival Craft Radio

The GM1600 meets temperature, thermal shock, vibration, and drop resistant (from 1 m height) requirements. After passing those environmental tests, the GM1600 sustains 1m depth waterproof construction specified with IMO resolutions A.809(19), A.694(17), and IEC 61097-12. The BP-234 battery can operate even at –4 degrees F.

Easy Operation

All knobs are sized for quick operation and the large, well-labeled buttons feature a positive action “feel” with a programmable beep tone for sure operation. The front panel includes one-touch access to Channel 16 and the call channel.
